From Our Superintendent, Merida Brooks
All hard work brings a profit,
but mere talk only leads to poverty.
Proverbs 14:23
We are excited about the Do Hard Things Tour, a one-day Christian Teen Conference that's coming to Baton Rouge! Westminster is underwriting the cost for all of our students in grade levels 7-12 to attend this Conference. WCA will even be providing buses to get us there! The only cost to students will be the price of their lunch.
Visit their website www.therebelution.com/conference and let us know what you think. The Rebelution is defined as "a teenage rebellion against the low expectations of adolescence." Both parents and teens need to hear this message!
We would love for parents to register and attend with their teens. Register your teen for this October 15th Conference by clicking here! Parents, you will register directly through the website listed above.

 Bastrop Wildfire Mission Project
We ask you to please pray for the people of Bastrop, TX as they need your help. Their homes have been destroyed by wildfires caused by Tropical Storm Lee and the severe drought. Roughly 1500 homes have been destroyed so far and the fires are still burning. We have supplied a list of items that are needed. Anything you have to donate will be greatly appreciated as this community has nothing left. Mrs. Yvette Arzola will pick up items from all three campuses (Calvary, Lafayette and Opelousas) every Friday for the next two weeks. This mission will end on September 30, 2011, as Mrs. Arzola will travel to Bastrop, TX to deliver the items. Thank you in advance for your prayers and donations. For more information, please contact Yvette Arzola at 337-407-8400.
Items you may consider donating: Toiletry items, socks, shoes, t-shirts, clothing

Football Ad Contest Winners
Congratulations to the winners of the 2011 Spring Football Ad Contest!! First grader, Gavin Ollenburger, won Football-Player-for-a-Day! He stood on the sideline for one quarter of the game to experience what it feels like to be on the football team, received recognition for his accomplishment at half-time, and was presented with a autographed football from seniors Thomas Kemp and Nick Waguespack. Fifth grader, Victoria Marks, won Cheerleader-for-a-Day. She spent one quarter of the football game cheering with the varsity cheerleaders, received recognition at half-time for her accomplishment, and the cheerleaders presented her with an autographed megaphone. It was an exciting night for these winners. Be on the lookout for information in the spring, on how you can become the next Football Player or Cheerleader-for-a-Day contest winner!

Opelousas Elementary Chapel
As a reminder of 9/11, our Elementary students began chapel on Monday, Sept. 12, with a video from God Tube on "Why We Remember." With all of the graphic television presentations over the weekend of 9/11/2011, this subtle, child-approriate showing pointed to a God who is faithful, has a plan, and can protect His people.

The WCA Cross Country Teams opened their season this weekend in Metairie at the Loyola University Wolpack Invitational. Starting things off, The Lady Saders were led by Victoria Olivier, who posted a time of 21:50 to finish 8th overall. Victoria was followed by Brooke Thompson at 24:59 (placing 23rd), Krista Huddleston at 25:21 (placing 24th), Kenzi Doss at 25:22 (placing 25th), Brittany Smith at 26:11 (placing 33rd) and Kalli Doss at 28:41 (placing 44th). Together, the Lady Saders finished in 3rd place, finishing only behind cross country powerhouse schools Domincan and McGehee. With 62 runners from 12 schools in the race, the Lady Saders certainly have had a strong start!
Not to be outdone...the Crusader Boys, with only three returning runners from last year, followed with outstanding performances by Joel Newsom finishing in 19:27 taking 25th, followed by Cameron Falgoust (19:33) for 26th. Newcomers Kaleb Andrepont crossed in 21:20 (45th), while Landon Vidrine posted a time of 22:35 (54th). Eli Manuel completed scoring for the Crusaders at 23:25 (58th). As a team, the Crusaders finished in 6th place. 85 runners representing 11 teams, were included in the race, with the Crusaders coming out ahead of St. Martin, E. St John, De La Salle, Salem and Ehret.
The Cross Country Teams will participate in the Erath Invitational Meet on Sept 17th at Acadiana Park.
